PPAL, in collaboration with the Look Foundation, will develop clear, culturally responsive educational materials focused on mental health wellness and the early identification of medical conditions that present as mental health challenges in children and youth. These materials will help families understand how common mental health concerns may be symptoms of medical conditions. Common mental health challenges, such as: OCD, eating disorders, anxiety, ADHD, mood lability, depression, school avoidance, rage, oppositional behavior, phobias and separation anxiety may be better attributed to these medical conditions: Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS). These disorders can cause sudden changes in behavior, mood, and functioning.

Together, PPAL and the Look Foundation will create multilingual print and digital resources to ensure families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds have access to accurate, easy-to-understand information. The materials will highlight early warning signs, explain symptoms, and guide families on how to seek appropriate medical and mental health support. By increasing awareness and access to information, this project will help families recognize concerns earlier, reduce stigma, and connect children and youth to timely and appropriate care.
